The Jesus Experiment

*Note* For review purposes, I have read this book through in it's entirety, but I have yet to follow the program as the book indicates. Now that I am reviewing, I can go back to the beginning and read the book again, as it was meant to be read.

The Jesus Experiment. I was a bit skeptical at first when I read about this book. It's a 12 week study to see if one can really have the abundant life that Jesus promises.

I must say that this is a very insightful book. I was hooked by the first chapter... I felt like the author was describing ME in his description of himself.

This book teaches how to live a more Christlike life. While we'll never be exactly like Christ, we can strive to live as he did. He was tempted just like we are. He had to face his fears (he was nailed to a cross, for crying out loud). But he was so close to God his father that he was able to overcome anything the enemy threw at him. And we can too!

I can't wait to read this book again. There's a study guide at the end of each chapter to help you in your study. It's easy to read, as though a friend were talking with you.

It's not an incredibly long time commitment, only 12 weeks. This book would be absolutely perfect for a small church group!

Grumble Hallelujah: Learning to Love Your Life Even When It Lets You Down

This book is great! It's about getting (or staying) close to God, even in the rough times.

Too often, when life gets us down, we are tempted to be mad at, or even blame God. But this book shows us that, even in the rough times, it's important to praise God. Even if you have to grumble it.

The author shares her troubles in this book, and how, with the bible in hand, she was able to overcome her situations. It's easy to praise God in the good times... but praising him in the bad times are what's going to bring us closer to him.

This book teaches you how to love your life, even when life doesn't seem to love you. i recommend this book to everyone. If you're not going thru a particularly tough time right now, you will in the future. This book could help you make it thru in one piece. ;)

The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven

In 2004, Kevin Malarky and his 6-year-old son Alex were in a terrible car accident. Alex was paralyzed and was not supposed to live. In fact, a friend told Kevin that he'd gone to be with Jesus. But he hadn't. In fact, he awoke 2 months later with an incredible story about being in heaven.

This book is amazing. It's the story of heaven, as told by one of God's sweet, innocent children. While I feel the book was more about the family coping with the tragedy than the boy's story, it remains an excellent book about God, faith and heaven.

I will definitely be praying for Alex and his family. God has blessed them despite Satan's efforts to knock them down.

This book is an easy read, and a page turner. Don't start it without ample time to finish it. I read it in 3 days.

And you'll need a box of tissues. :P

New Kid Catastrophes

This book is about 2 kids from the future coming back to the past to visit TJ Finkelstein for a history project. TJ ends up being a great leader, and the boys from the future have come to study her. But they end up getting stuck. TJ has some adventures at school (she's the new kid), including making an enemy of the popular kids. Herby and Tuna (the kids from the future) try to help but, of course, they make things worse. In the end, TJ learns some very valuable lessons about looking past a person's appearances. She even manages to make some friends in her new school.
I read this book with Josh. He's 7, so some of it was a little above his head and I had to explain a few things to him, but he just loved the book. He love the occasional, large, comic book-type writing. It was funny, it was action-packed, and it was wholesome (something that I liked). Plus, it gave us time to sit and read together, just the two of us.
This is a great book. Josh can't wait to read the rest of the series! :P

Desert Gift

I really liked this book. I didn't like some how some of the smaller problems were solved (I can't explain without giving away details), but all in all I enjoyed it. This book reminds us that even "experts" can be wrong. The only one that can make a marriage work is God. A touching story, very well written. I could feel what the characters were feeling.
